MUSU demands removal of security forces deployed inside MU campus

IMPHAL | Oct 2 : Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) has demanded the immediate removal of security forces deployed inside the varsity campus on the grounds that it is indicative of war-like zone inside an educational institution which has caused a lot of apprehension to the public of the state.

A release signed by president of MUSU, M. Dayaman asserted that the divisive policy of the leaders of the state has paved the way which will result in the disintegration of Manipur University (MU) while adding that the divisive policies initiated by AP. Pandey and his henchmen which has troubled the varsity for almost a year is still backed up by both the state and central governments.

The security provided to prof. Yugindro and prof. Shyamkesho has resulted in the defilement of MU as an educational establishment as a war-zone, the release said while adding that the arrests of students and suspensions of teachers and staff of MU is still on-going.

MUSU, in its release, also condemned the suspension of four teachers of the varsity on unreasonable grounds while adding that the prolongation of the crisis is an unfortunate incident that will have adverse effects on MU.

The release further questioned the functioning of the varsity can be effective by the sole dictatorship of prof. Yugindro and prof. Shyamkesho without the co-operation of the teachers and students of the varsity. While stating that the arrests and suspensions of teachers of the varsity who are in opposition in the dictatorial elements is still on-going, it also condemned the suspension of four teachers of MU while adding that if that types of persecution persist, it would be unfortunate for MU because without the students and teachers, prof. Yugindro and prof. Shyamkesho could not ensure the survival of MU. It further questioned whether the two professors have the ambitions to run the varsity on their own.

MUSU, in its release, further asserted that the statement made by prof. Yugindro at the request made by representatives of MUWWA that he could not authorise the removal of the FIR lodged against the teachers and students of MU without consulting the CM is clearly indicative of the political nexus with vested interests. It also asserted that the invitations for negotiations by the state government without the unconditional release of the teachers and students arrested will be futile.

MUSU further called for the immediate removal of security forces deployed inside the MU campus asserting that the apprehensions and fear caused by their presence is adversely affecting the minds and thoughts of students.
