Nagaland: Police recover 1.7kg brown sugar, 2 held for extortion

DIMAPUR, MAY 10 (MExN): The Dimapur police on May 10 recovered contraband brown sugar weighing some 1.7kg. One woman identified as Alhing Singson was arrested in this connection.

The PRO, Dimapur police, in a press release, stated that the police raided the woman’s residence at Signal Evening Bazaar “based on specific information.” The contraband with an approximate street value of Rs. 4.2 lakhs was found concealed in 20 separate boxes. The woman was arrested, case registered and further investigation was ongoing, the release added.

In another incident earlier in the morning, two persons were arrested from Darogapathar for extortion. The release said that the duo, identified as Kughato and Zhehuto, were extorting money from truckers and sand retailers near the NRL petrol pump. Both residents of Purana Bazaar, the former of the two was said to be an “SO” in the GPRN/NSCN. “Demand slips” were also confiscated from their possession.

In another separate incident during the day, a stolen autorickshaw (NL07F-0058) was recovered by the police. Police personnel responding to the complaint found the three-wheeler at Balijan, East Karbi-Anglong, Assam. The release said that it was snatched by unidentified persons near the DMC office and investigation was on to nab the culprits.
