Guwahati/Dimapur, July 2: Contradicting the central government’s stand on the framework agreement of bringing a solution to the Naga problem without affecting the territorial integrity of other states, the National Socialist Council of Nagaland, (Isak-Muivah) [NSCN-IM] has stated that the issue of integration of all the Naga territories is an integral part of the ongoing Indo-Naga political dialogue and that both the parties have agreed for the same.
In a statement, the NSCN-IM, in ceasefire since 1997, stated that the Indo-Naga political talks sans integration of all the contiguous Naga areas will be a futile exercise.
“Naga territories which have been kept apart arbitrarily and indiscriminately by the British in the first place and then further divided between Burma (now Myanmar) and India under Nehru without the knowledge and consent of the Naga people is totally unacceptable. Just as there cannot be a kingdom without territory, so the Indo-Naga political talks sans integration of all the contiguous Naga areas will be a futile exercise,” a statement read.
The NSCN-IM has been demanding Nagalim – an integration of Naga-inhabited areas of Nagaland’s three neighbours – Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.
The release further stated that the historic Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015, between the Government of India and NSCN, was signed in recognition of the Nagas’ situation that integration of all the contiguous Naga areas is the legitimate right of the Naga people and it is mutually agreed that it will be pursued through a political process.
“Now, after 21 years of negotiations, India and Naga people are prepared to finalize the political dialogue to its logical conclusion and resolve the oldest political problem in entire South East Asia. Any attempt, at this crucial juncture, to undermine or disturb the peace process without being able to make head or tail of the negotiation shall no longer be tolerated,” the release further stated.
The Naga ceasefire outfit further slammed Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio for his recent statements on the ongoing talks by terming it as “irrational and irresponsible statements”.~Time8
