UKHRUL | Sept 7 : Ukhrul Autonomous District Council (UADC) member, H. A. Vareishang today launched a month long programme of National Nutritional Mission (NNM) at ADC Complex Phungreitang, Ukhrul, including a Tribal Food Mela hosted by ADC, Ukhrul.
Speaking as chief guest of the launching function, H.A. Vareishang expressed the need of collective effort of both administrative staff of ADC Ukhrul and elected members of the Ukhrul District Autonomous Council for the successful implementation of national nutritional mission in the district.
The main objective of NNM is to focus on education, health diet and hygiene and sanitation in order to develop our national human resource.
Councillor, Mark Luithing, who attended the programme, emphasised on the need to avail the benefits to all school going children and feed them with nutritional foods to make them grow healthy. Concerted efforts involving all departments, and not being dependent on government funds would be more fruitful, he added.
In a keynote address from DPO of Social Welfare, Ukhrul A.S. Tabitha dwelt on the need of convergence for successfully implementation of the national nutritional mission in the district. She also emphasised on the prime objective of Rashtriya Poshan Maah (National Nutritional Mission).
Under NNM children below 6 years, lactating mother, pregnant and adolescence children were provided nutritional foods in order to ensure their growth and for healthy living.
Tabitha further mentioned that Social Welfare department of the district has also prepared to take up more activities on the nutritional status of every village under different Anganwadi Centres through NNM. She said that smart phone would be provided to all Anganwadi workers for updating the status in time, and further added that NNM is a three years national programme.
CEO of ADC Ukhrul, Polly Makan administered the pledging of national nutritional mission commitment to partake in the mission for successful implementation and availing the benefits to all the targeted groups in Ukhrul district.
Speaking at the side-line of the launching programme, Polly Makan also said that ADC, Ukhrul has set programme to organise awareness and sensitisation of NNN targeting most of the blocks of Ukhrul district during the month long programme in order to achieve the target of the district council.
More than 80 varieties of organic food crop, fruits, vegetables, grains, juice, and prepared food were showcased in the tribal food mela at ADC Complex, Phungreitang.
ADC member, Mark Luithing led the inspection of the one-day Food Mela function.
Students from council schools of Ukhrul Town, additional CEO, DI, AI, staff of ADC, Ukhrul teachers, students and well-wishers attended the launching programme.~IFP
