NSO calls for peace at Indo-Myanmar border

Dimapur, April 8 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Organization (NSO) Myanmar has urged upon the Government of India, Government of Myanmar and NSCN (K) to allow peace to “prevail within no time” at India-Myanmar border areas. According to a press release from NSO President Mankhat Konyak, it initiated a “journey toward NSCN-K to share the difficulties and grievances of the inhabitants in border area.” It was based on public request and “thorough calculation of the ground situation at India-Myanmar border.”

The representatives from four gate-way – Chera-Awangkhu, Punyu-Pangsha, Throilu-Chen Mohu and Hazik-Laju also accompanied NSO team to convey grievances of the border tribes to NSCN (K), it said. “The NSO and the suffering inhabitants are optimistic that the NSCN-K will consider and listen to the cry of their ‘people,’ and the peace will prevail within no time,” it added. At the same time, the NSO also urged upon Government of India and Government of Myanmar to “maintain peace which is the only Identity card for the public and respect ‘India-Myanmar friendship’.” While stating that Nagas of Myanmar, especially bordering India depend on markets in India side for their basic needs, the NSO informed that for couple of years, “the border inhabitants are being harassed by targeting NSCN-K, which is not a mature move and also not a good reason.” In this connection, the NSO also urged the “security forces of Indian side to respect the Indian parliament act ‘to continued the free movement at India-Myanmar border’ which was reaffirmed couple of months back.”
