IMPHAL | Jul 31 : National Investigation Agency (NIA) has confiscated one pistol and a suitcase containing full of gold biscuits weighing one kilogram each from the Mantripukhri residence of Saikul MLA, Yam thong Haokip, said a source.
The raid which was conducted by a team of NIA led by a DIG at the residence of the MLA since yesterday was continued till today afternoon.
As per the source the raid was part of the investigation of the missing case of arms and ammunition from the Arms Kote of 2nd Manipur Rifle, which was recently handed over to NIA.
NIA started the investigation into the missing of 56 small arms from the Arms Kote of 2nd Manipur Rifle on June 2, under direction from Ministry of Home Affair and submitted the FIR before NIA special court.
The incident came to light when a complaint was lodged by 2nd MR commandant, P. Manjit to Imphal police station stating that 56 pistols had gone missing from Arms Kote of 2nd Manipur Rifle.
In connection with the case, four senior officers of the state police including an IPS officer were suspended. It has been reported of arresting five suspects including two personnel of 2nd MR and suspected militants.
The MLA was reportedly hospitalised today morning at Sky Hospital and currently treatment is going on in the ICU of the hospital.
According to the MLA’s personal security officer, the MLA is a heart and diabetic patient. The hospital authority restricted the visitors and even media persons from visiting him, as per the hospital protocol.
