Imphal West district police arrested six individuals including the president of National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO), as a part of their ongoing investigation into the Nagamapal Bomb blast that killed a CRPF jawan and seriously injured another on October 20 evening.
According to reliable sources, NIPCO president, Oinam Premjit, 42, and his wife Oinam (O) Pinky were arrested from their residence located at Nambol Oinam last night.
The police team also arrested other office bearers of NIPCO including its organisation secretary Sahabudin Cheshaba and Khaidem Sana, Yulembam Milan the same day.
It is learnt that three pistols and 17 live ammunition have also been recovered by police during the operation. In its continued operation; the police team also raided the head office of NIPCO today located at Keishampat junction. During the raid, police recovered assorted items including some mini DV cassette, a DVD, Rs 44,550 in cash and a computer set.
The raid was led by additional SP I/W (Ops) Krishnatombi and city police officer-in-charge, Ingocha. The raid started from 10 am and lasted till 5 pm in the evening.
In a separate incident, related with the same case, police also arrested a cadre of the proscribed UNLF identified as Laishram Rakesh alias Thoungamba alias Angangcha alias Bishwanath, from Ngaikhong Maning Leikai from Bishnupur bazar.
While the motive behind the October 20 could not be ascertained, chief minister Nongthombam Biren had assured that his government will hunt down the culprits involve in the blast and take strong action against them.
