IMPHAL | Sept 24 : Police personnel failed to rescue the effigy of chief minister, N. Biren but saved the effigy of vice-chancellor, Adya Prasad Pandey from being burnt down in front of state Congress office by State Youth Congress.
Condemning the surgical strike inside Manipur University boys’ hostel under the instruction of state government during the intervening night of September 20 and 21, volunteers of state youth congress burnt down effigies of Biren today at about 3.45 pm in front of its party office located at B.T. Road.
Speaking to media persons, secretary of Manipur PCC and in-charge of State Youth Congress, M. Sovachandra said that state youth congress strongly condemned the surgical strike carried out against the students instead of taking the initiative to bring normalcy inside the university campus.
To save the university, state youth congress will take various agitations other than burning of effigies, he said. He appealed all other political parties to start agitation against the impasse of university issue in order to bring normalcy in Manipur University.
National secretary of Indian Youth Congress, in-charge, Manipur, Sarifa Rahman said the arrestee and suspended teachers of Manipur University must be released and withdrawn. If the present government fails to take necessary action within 48 hours, the youth congress will continue storming at residence of Biren and BJP state party office without warning. She said Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is taking initiatives for bringing digital India but state BJP is suspending internet service in the entire state instead of solving the Manipur University issue, she added.
She said the youth congress has started to agitate against the BJP for its wrong administration, if the government fails to take necessary actions to bring normalcy inside Maniipur University, youth Congress will intensify its agitation against the present government for the welfare of the people as well as for the students, she asserted.~IFP
