THOUBAL | Sept 3 : As a part of the ongoing preparations for the forthcoming WW II Memorial Run 2018 scheduled to be held on September 9, organised by Kakching Runners, the repairing work has been taken up at the roadways and tracks for the Marathon which will be taken part by the people of Kakching.
The first day of the repairing work commenced yesterday at Bhudharaj road where pot holes were filled up with stones and given a neat finishing.
Regarding the upcoming Marathon, event director, N. Munal Meitei stated that the WW II Memorial Run which will be held on September 9, is going to be taken part not only by runners from different states of India but from many other countries.
The marathon which will be held on the theme “Healthy Manipur, Healthy India,” will commemorate the Second World War soldiers who had walked on the soil of the state, but also invite their descendents to visit the state once again, he said. This will also help boost the tourism in the state, he added.
He further said the Marathon will cover 11 kilometres at hilly areas and 14 kilometres in the valley, making a total of 25 kilometres. It is hoped that it will contribute in building up the integrity between the people of the hills and the valley, he further said while adding the track of marathon crosses both the hills and valley so that it may bring closeness and solidarity between the two.
While asserting that the WW II Memorial Run is organised for the people, he urged that all should extend their support and appealed not to impose bandh and blockades etc on the day of the marathon.~IFP
