Protesters claim they boycotted CM’s visits to Uyumpok

IMPHAL | May 14 : Confrontation took place between women folks of Khundrakpham constituency and state police today afternoon at around 4.30 pm when police stop them from performing their protest demonstration in Sawongbung area, demanding to construct district hospital at Sagolmang.

As police were unable to control the situation, they fired some rounds of tear gas shells. During the clash one, N. Ngouba who is the publicity secretary of the JAC against unnatural shifting of Imphal East district hospital from Sagolmang got injured at his left elbow by tear gas and two women protestors were fainted.

The protestors said that they will not welcome chief minister, N. Biren in the constituency and said they will boycott tomorrow’s chief minister visits to Uyumpok in connection with the “Go to Village” mission.

One of the protestors speaking to media persons said that the chief minister, N. Biren and the authority concerned remained deaf ear to their demands though they have given several memorandums demanding to build the district hospital at Sagolmang.

She said the villagers of Khundrakpham and Saikul constituencies face a lot of inconveniences while visiting JNIMS or RIMS for treatment due to poor road quality, long distance and financial problem.

The protestors asked the government to construct the hospital at Sagolmang considering the facts and grievances of the poor villagers of the two constituencies.

They also warned that they will intensify the agitation if the government fails to give positive response to their demands.
