IMPHAL | Sept 29 : To build a model residential school at Lungchong Maiphai (LM) of Ukhrul district, a total amount of Rs. 25 crores has been sanctioned.
Vice- chairman of Manipur Infrastructure Development Agency (MIDA), O. Lukhoi Singh said in his speech as chief guest during laying of the foundation stone for the Model Residential School.The program was attended by MLA 45-Chingai constituency Khashim Vashum.
LM block is located about 45 kilometres away from Ukhrul head quarter at the boundary of two sub-division of the district namely Teinem and Phalee.
The programme started with cultural programs by Teinem Youth Club and Phalee Youth Organisation.
Speaking at the occasion, MLA Lukhoi said many schemes have been implemented under the initiative of the BJP led government. Among the schemes, the ‘Go to Village’ initiative is objected at uplifting the far flung areas and bringing holistic development. The mission has able to bring a lot of changes and has made the relationship better between hills and valley better, he added.
He said that an amount of Rs. 25 crore for construction of the school has already been sanctioned. The Ministry of Minority Affairs funded 90 percent and 10 percent is state government’s share. The construction includes all necessary blocks which include a 100 bedded hostel, quarters for faculty members etc.
Lukhoi also said the amount will be released on instalment basis and construction will begin if there is no dispute with the projected site. He appealed the villagers and other organisation to support the construction work. MLA of Chingai constituency, Khashim Vashum said most of the government officials feel hesitant for being posted at hill districts due to lack of infrastructure. To overcome the inconvenience the government has been taking necessary steps by constructing appropriate infrastructures in the hill districts, he added.
He said incidents have occurred where after lying of foundation stones, construction work failed to start for many years. But with the assurance of chief minister, he hoped that the school will be finished on time.
Development work of LM block has been ignoring since decades by the former governments but with the initiatives of present government to bring development to both hill and valley equally, LM block will become developed in the next few years, Khashim added..
Village chiefs of surrounding villages including SDO of the sub-division also attended the function.
