IMPHAL | Apr 12 : Congress spokesperson, Kh. Joykishan Singh alleged that a huge amount of funds meant for the public could not be traced under the present government.
He said this in a press conference at the Congress Bhavan.
He said that funds amounting to more than Rs. 30 crore for the construction of 27 block offices and for the repair of 43 more, have gone missing.
He further said, if the government claims that the money had been spent in the developmental works for the hills and villages then it should clarify where exactly the funds have been utilised.
Demanding a white paper with detailed information about where the funds have been used, he further inquired where the Rs. 5 crore sanctioned for the construction of each district headquarters of seven districts have been used. He also inquired where Rs. 1 crore each sanctioned for Jiribam and Kangpokpi have been used.
He stated the funds do not belong to the Congress or BJP, but come from the public as tax money.
The Congress party believes that there are indications which suggest the funds have been allegedly moved elsewhere.
If it is in the interest of the public, the move to send in CBI over allegations that advance payment has been made without any bank guarantee regarding the Loktak scam is welcomed, Joykishan said.
What is really surprising is that the civil secretariat that was supposed to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister, was stopped from inauguration after inspection was made by a team of Congress Legislature Party regarding its alleged incomplete construction, he informed.
He further inquired “If the work for the construction of the civil secretariat has been stalled, then where have they utilised the sanctioned Rs. 10 Crore for the work?” He suggested that an inquiry team consisting of a congress team and a team of the ruling party along with the engineering should go the site to clarify the issue.
He further alleged that the government has misspent huge amounts of money belonging to the public and there are so many other such scandals. They will be exposed to the public and agitations will be taken up against them, he added.~IFP
