Shyamkumar’s son remanded to police custody for 3 days

IMPHAL | Jun 9 : Environment minister, Th. Shyamkumar’s son, Th. Satyajit who was arrested by the Police for inflicting injury to two police men on duty with his rash driving, has been remanded to police custody for three days.

The accused Th. Satyajit, 23, was charged with criminal assault to deter public servants from discharging their duty, rash driving and endangering personal safety of others under section 353/279/338 IPC.

The minister’s son inflicted the injury to the policemen on duty on Friday afternoon around 2.30 p.m. during a high speed chase with the police in the busy MG Avenue in Imphal.

As per eye witness account, a police vehicle was seen chasing a black colour Honda City car with tinted windows speeding towards the highway.

Another police vehicle, laying in wait to stop the accused car signaled to the car to stop at the junction of the highway. However, instead of stopping the car rammed into the police personnel and later sped away, said the witness.

Later the car was stopped in front of Minister Th. Shyamkumar’s quarter, a few hundred metres away from the scene of incident where the police personnel were knocked down, added the witness.

On failing to comply with the police request to step out from the car, the driver was dragged out from the car and taken into custody, the witness continued.

It was later found out that the driver behind the wheel was one of the Shyamkumar’s son.

The injured police personnel namely, T Akhup Kom, 41, of Thayong Village and Ningthoujam Anilkumar, 28, of Kodompkpi Mamang Leikai, sustained fractured legs.

While the identity of the driver of the Honda car was immediately established, the police lodged a complaint against the Minister’s son late in the night.
