Guwahati/Gangtok, September 21: A businessman from Sikkim was arrested for carrying a consignment of 27 kg of smuggled gold in West Bengal’s Siliguri on Friday.
According to officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), the value of the gold is around Rs 8.6 crore.
The businessman has been identified as ST Bhutia and was allegedly carrying 27 gold bars each weighing a kg. The bars were kept concealed under the seat of his car.
The DRI officials following a tip-off searched his car near a cinema hall on Sevok Road, seized the gold and arrested him.
He was later produced before a local court for further remand.~Time8
