Guwahati, September 2: Sikkim is all set to operate its first airport from October 4. The Pakyong airport, located 35 km from its capital Gangtok, will start its operation from next month.
The Greenfield airport at Pakyong was approved by the Central government in 2008.
Guwahati will be linked to Sikkim by air from October 16. SpiceJet will start its daily service between Kolkata and Sikkim’s Pakyong on October 4.
The airport is located around 60 kilometres away from the India-China border. The airline, operating under the Regional Connectivity Scheme UDAN, is offering a one-way introductory fare of Rs 2,600. The bookings will start soon, as per officials.
