UKHRUL | Jul 27 : Understanding between bank authorities and Tangkhul CVOs has arrived after the CVOs temporary closed the banks of SBI, UBI and UCO at Ukhrul yesterday due to shortage of cash and poor customer services of the banks.
On July 16, the CVOs had put up a list of grievances and complaints for necessary action addressed to the general manager of RBI Imphal. The complaints included frequent shortage of currency in the banks, poor service due to shortage of staffs at United Bank of India and non-functioning of four ATM booths in Ukhrul town. United Bank of India, Viewland, Ukhrul Branch was closed down on November 1, 2017 for unsatisfactory services. Deputy commissioner of Ukhrul has also allotted rooms at Mini Secretariat Complex, Ukhrul for the opening of a new SBI Branch or shifting of the said bank from Somsai. However till date the bank is yet to be shifted.
Due to the close-down of banks by the Tangkhul CVOs, chief manager of SBI, RBI Imphal rushed to Ukhrul for a meeting with the CVO yesterday. In the meeting, the chief manager, SBI, RBI Imphal, A. Altias assured to shift the branch from Somsai to Ukhrul town within three months from the acceptance and clearance from RBI. He also assured to address the shortage of staff and promised to add two more ATM booths within short time. Chairman of Tangkhul Naga Aze Longohang, Shomi Angkang informed that the bandh on SBI has been lifted with the assurance given by the authority and normal functioning of the bank has resumed again.
Tangkhul CVOs and authority of UBI held another meeting today at TNL Office, where chief manager of UBI, Paona Bazaar Branch, Parnadeep Majumder assured that the shortage of staffs will be taken care within the first week of August. He assured that ATM booth will be made functional 24x7 without cash shortage at Viewland Ukhrul and also promised to open one special counter for senior citizen after due consideration with the higher authority. The VSAT installed at UBI Bank will be maintained and function smoothly for 5/6 PC at a time, he added. With these assurances the bandh on UBI Bank has been lifted with immediate effect, informed chairman of Tangkhul Naga Zingtun Longphang, Mangang Raman.
Chairman of Tangkhul Naga Ato Longphang, Dearson Chamroy said that the indefinite closed down of UCO Bank is still effective.
It is learnt that the authority of UCO Bank has not approached the CVOs for a meeting till the filing of this report. It is also learnt that inward remittance for Ukhrul was scheduled on May 29, June 15, July 2, July 17 and July 24 respectively. However, all the scheduled dates of inward remittance were cancelled due to bad weather conditions and other technical problems.
The Tangkhul CVOs have appealed the authority concerned to make necessary arrangement for surface transport of remittance for Ukhrul looking at the greater interest of the people.
