Tangkhul organisations condemn killing of Neiphretuo Metsie-o

UKHRUL | Sept 15 : Neiphretuo Metsie-o from Chiechama Village went missing on September 7 and his dead body was found in the morning of September 15 between Lasumi and Zapami village under Phek district.

According to report, the white Scorpio vehicle he was driving was also missing.

It was reported that the murder was allegedly committed by a woman, Ringthingchon and a man, Yuireingam alias Themreishang belonging to Tangkhul community. According to information given by Ukhrul police, one of the accused Ringthingchon, 26, is in police custody and the other accused Yuireingam is still at large while filing this report.

The Tangkhul civil society organisations (CVOs) in different places have strongly condemned the heinous act. The organisations in Ukhrul in their condemnation statement stated that “The Tangkul Civil Society strongly condemn the barbaric killing of Neiphretuo Metsie-o whose dead body was found on the road between Lasumi and Zapami under Phek district. We also condemn the culprits subsequently running away with his car.”

It further said that the Tangkhul Civil Society in its meeting held on September 15 at the president's Chamber of Tangkhul Naga Long appealed the authority concerned to book the perpetrators at the earliest for end of justice.

The Tangkhul CVOs while expressing their anguish, conveyed their deepest condolence to Neiphretuo's family and loved ones and sent their humble solidarity. The condemnation was signed by president of Tangkhul Naga Long Weapon Zimik, president of Tangkhul Shanao Long (Women's League), Grace A Shatsang, president of Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (Student's Union), AS Rangam, president of Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (Youth Council), Thanmi LM. Shimray and president of Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (Chief Association), AS. Vaomi.

In a further development on the matter, Kharasom Village Authority Court has come out with a statement clarifying that Yuireingam R Shimray, son of Starson R. Shimray, one of the alleged perpetrators, had been expelled from Kharasom village in 2016 because of his criminal and unlawful activities in the past. In a clarification signed by headman of the village, Z.N Shimray, it also stated that the village would not hold any responsibility for acts committed by Yuireingam.
