NEW DELHI/BENGALURU: Union minister HN Ananth Kumar, 59, passed away in Bengaluru in the wee hours on Monday. He was undergoing treatment for cancer at Shankara Cancer Hospital in Bengaluru.
Following severe complications and infection, Kumar had been on ventilator for the last few days. Minister of parliamentary affairs, Kumar had been diagnosed with cancer before the Karnataka assembly polls.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over Ananth Kumar's demise.
Mortal remains of Ananth Kumar is now being taken to his house Sumera on Lalbagh Road, where it will be kept till 8 am for family members to pay tribute. Later, it will be shifted to the National College Grounds.
A six-time Parliamentarian from the city, Kumar has been indisposed for the last few months and was said to be undergoing treatment in London and New York.
Tejaswini, Kumar's wife, had on Friday said that the minister was being given the best treatment for cancer but severe infection was causing concen. He was responding well to the treatment, she had said.
Union Home minister Rajnath Singh and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had recently visited Ananth Kumar in the hospital.
