World Tourism Festival held with fewer crowd

IMPHAL | Sept 27 : The celebration of World Tourism Day was held at Marjing Polo Complex, Heingang today with a little crowd mostly made of locals of Heingang due to the on-going 48 hours general strike.

The programme was inaugurated by chief minister N. Biren Singh and attended by many cabinet ministers, MLAs, Adhyakshya of various districts, chief secretary and officials of various departments.

As a part of the world wide observation, the state also observes World Tourism Day every year in different venues. It was held this time at Marjing Polo Complex, which was inaugurated by chief minister, N. Biren Singh this year with an objective to promote and preserve the indigenous game of the state Sagol Kangjei (Polo).

The programme was organised by department of Tourism with an objective to promote the importance of tourism but very few people turned up to get the taste of the event.

The function is lined with many cultural and entertainment items. 50 stalls were also opened to cater maximum number of visitors but due to lack of proper transportation due to the ongoing general strike, people belonging to far flung places lost the opportunity to enjoy the event.

The morning session witnessed more crowd made mostly of the locals of Heingang whereas there was very less crowd in the afternoon session which started later then the scheduled time.

The second session was scheduled to start at 1:50 pm but it did not stat till around 4:00 pm, and very few people were seen at the site of the function.
