To motivate the party workers ahead of the Lok Sabha elections on April 11th, 2019, Congress president Rahul Gandhi would be visiting Shillong on April 3rd and 4th, 2019.
As per reports, Rahul will arrive in Shillong on April 3rd, 2019 evening and the next day he is scheduled to chair a meeting with District Congress Committee (DCC) and party workers at State Convention Centre. He will not address any rally.
It may be mentioned, Rahul is scheduled to campaign for the party’s Lok Sabha candidates for the Kaliabor, Lakhimpur, Silchar and Karimganj constituencies of Assam on April 3rd-4th, 2019.
On April 3rd, 2019, he will public rallies at Bokakhat and Lakhimpur. On April 4th, the Congress president will visit Karimganj and Silchar for electioneering.
The Congress in Meghalaya lost ground to the P A Sangma-led National Peoples’ Party and the regional parties in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Though Congress MP Vincent H Pala retained the Shillong seat, the winning margin has narrowed from 67,520 in 2009 to only 40,348 in 2014.
