UKHRUL | Jun 17: A World Environment Month observance programme was held today at Ramva Village under the initiative of ADC member, S.P. Mashunngam of 13/Shangshak DCC, Ukhrul.
SP Mashunngam said the purpose of organising such event is to generate awareness on climate change and encourage villagers to live green by planting more trees and live a green healthy life.
Divisional forest officer (Soil and Conservation, Division -1, Imphal) S.W. Suisa in his key note address stated that human intervention is responsible for desertification and drought in earth. He called for plantation of more trees and nurturing them to combat these problems.
ADC member, Yangmi Shimray and SW Suisa planted saplings at the Village Authority Office compound. SW Suisa flagged off the “Plant Trees, Go Green and Live Green Human Chain” and Yangmi Shimray, flagged off the “Green Run and Tree Plantation” programme.
While youths and children planted saplings at the Lungva Eco Park, the elders took turn in cleaning their respective locality. SP Mashunngam informed that there will also be prizes for social work and maintenance of cleanliness in the respective locality of the village. Villagers of Ramva including both youths and the aged participated in the programme.
