Manipur claimed the team champion title by bagging 157 medals including 80 gold in the sporting extravaganza of the 1st North East Olympic Games 2018 which concluded today at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium.

Manipur finished with 79 gold, 47 silver, 31 bronze medals and Assam which gave a tough challenge, had to settle for the runners up title winning 45 gold, 52 silver, 41 bronze medals.

Arunachal Pradesh occupied the third spot with 18 gold, 20 silver, 38 bronze medals while Mizoram bagged 8 gold, 15 silver, 29 bronze medals; Nagaland fetched 6 gold, 9 silver and 26 bronze medals; Meghalaya collected 3 gold, 8 silver, 29 bronze medals; Sikkim bagged one gold, 6 silver and 18 bronze medals and Tripura ended the meet with 3 silver and 17 bronze medals.

A resurgent NorthEast United rescued a point with a gritty second-half display against FC Goa in a game where both sides will be encouraged by their Indian Super League start.

Ferran ‘Coro’ Corominas once again made a menace of himself in the opposition box, scoring his 19th and 20th ISL goals in the first half. 

His opener came from a delicate chip from Jackichand Singh from the right. NorthEast goalkeeper TP Rehenesh failed to get a hand on the ball, which struck Corominas and rolled into the net. Replays showed that the Spanish striker might have got a hand as the ball made its way into the net.

After clinching gold at the Indo-Lanka International Savate Cup Championship at Chandigarh, 20-year-old Tracy Darlong of Tripura has set her sight on the biggest stage and wants to win gold at the Olympic Games for India. Tracy was accorded a special welcome at Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Airport, Agartala, upon her triumphant return on Thursday. She was also felicitated by Tribal Welfare minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia at an event of Darlong Students Union on Saturday.

Speaking to, Tracy said that she is not affected by stardom or praises but wants to play for India in the Olympics and win a gold medal there.

One of the most popular football leagues in the country, the Mizoram Premier League is back on the sporting calendar for the 2018 season. On Friday, Mizoram sports minister Zodintluanga kicked off the league for seven successive seasons. The first match will take place on September 6 in Aizawl.

The league, which has been the nursery for several Mizo footballers over the years, will see eight clubs in the competition with current champions Chhinga Veng FC, Aizawl FC, Bethlehem Vengthlang FC, Chanmari FC,  Electric Veng FC, Mizoram Police, Ramhlun North FC and newly promoted club Chawnpui FC all battling for the coveted trophy.

Jwensinle Kesen and Puleno Neikha from Nagaland will be a part of the Indian Sepaktakraw team for the 18th Asian Games to be held at Jakarta and Palembang in Indonesia from August 18.

Jwensinle, a product of State Sports Girls Hostel, Dimapur, will be featuring in the team as a player while Puleno will lead the team as Indian women sepaktakraw coach, said Nagaland Sepaktakraw Association general secretary, Holshe Khrieo in a press release. Jwensinle is currently employed as a constable in the SSB and Puleno Neikha is a Sepaktakraw instructor in Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Nagaland

Pholih Konyak representing All Nagaland Amateur Muaythai Association (ANAMA) bagged gold medal at the just concluded National Amateur Muaythai Championship held at Bangaluru, Karnataka from July 19 to 22. The championship was organized by Muaythai Association Karnataka. 
The fighters, Pholih Konyak and Raj Kumar were accompanied by Pangmei Konyak as judge. 
The championship was organized to select player to represent India at the World Muaythai Championship to be held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Arsenba Ozukum, Mairidin Newmai and Kekhrieneitso Angami training out of The Combat Academy, Dimapur, represented Nagaland at the All India Mixed Martial Arts Federation (AIMMAF) nationals held in Delhi.
Kekhrieneitso Angami beat Telangana’s representative in the quarters by second round submission (standing guillotine), Delhi’s in the semi-finals by submission (rear naked choke) and Maharashtra’s representative in the finals by submission (rear naked choke) to win the lightweight (70kgs) championship for the state. He also won the best fighter award and also best submission of the tournament for his standing guillotine in his first fight.

Neithongunuo Rio Achumi from City Gym, Dimapur emerged as the winner of World Amateur Body Building Association NE India Miss Fitness, a regional bodybuilding and fitness sporting event.
Lily Hasnu from Isaac National Gym, Dimapur bagged the second place.
Both athletes from Nagaland have also qualified for the Hercules Olympia 2018 Championship to be held in New Delhi in September. Hercules Olympia is an international event and platform for over 400 athletes from more than 26 countries.

Indian Super League (ISL) title holder Chennaiyin FC on Friday signed the Mizoram trio of Isaac Vanmalsawma, Zohmingliana Ralte and Laldinliana Renthlei on two-year deals.

Twenty-one-year old winger Isaac Vanmalsawma and 27-year-old defender Zohmingliana Ralte have signed for the two-time ISL champions after the expiry of their contracts at FC Pune City and Bengaluru FC respectively, a press note said.

Dimapur, June 20 (MExN): Two Naga archers Archer Kilenmeren and Kevikieno bagged a gold and bronze medal respectively in the Individual Olympic Round representing India in the recently concluded India-Bhutan Friendship Archery Championship in Bhutan.

Hunezo, State Archer Coach in a press release stated that Archer Kilenmeren bagged 3 gold medals and Kevikieno won 1 gold and 1 bronze medal held at Thimpu, Bhutan on June 16 and 17.

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has accepted a two-year prison sentence and fine of 18.8 million euro after being accused of defrauding the Spanish government in unpaid tax on Friday, according to a report on newspaper El Mundo.

The Portuguese captain, who is leading his side at the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia right now, is however unlikely to serve any jail time since the Spanish law dictates that for a sentence of under two years for first offence can be served on probation.

A football fan had created a shrine of sorts to his favourite game, football at his home and he has always thrown it’s doors open to others of his kind every World Cup since the 90’s.
