Ukhrul United FC is the new champion of Maj Bob Khathing Football Tournament 2019. Ukhrul United defeated last year’s champion, Ukhrul FC by a score of 2-0 to lift the coveted title.
DIG Mohit Seth graced the occasion as chief guest at the closing ceremony, the 7th edition of Maj Bob Khathing Tournament. Assam Rifles, under the aegis of 10 Sector Somsai, has been celebrating the birth anniversary of the legend Maj Bob Khathing Ralengnao since 2012.
In the final match played today at TNL Ground, Ukhrul United FC played their best to lift the title. Captain of Ukhrul FC Khangatar Tungshangnao (Jersey No. 20) failed to convert a penalty kick in the 20th minute after a superb save by the goal keeper of Ukhrul United FC.
Captain of Ukhrul United FC, Zenith Mashangva (Jersey No. 6) opened their account by converting a fine penalty kick in the 24th minute. Julian Keishing (Jersey No. 10) added another goal in the 40th minute. The second half saw last year champion bracing up their skill and giving more pressure but could not find the net. Both team displayed good football and true sportsmanship.
With an approximate six thousands football lovers attending the final match, it would not be far fetch to say that the 7th edition of Maj Bob Khathing Football Tournament was a huge success.
DIG Mohit Seth gave away the prizes for events of the tournament. Ukhrul Football Youth Academy lifted the trophy of the first edition of Maj Bob Khathing Football Baby League and Chamelon Volleyball Club was the winner of Women’s Volleyball Championship. The highest scorer of the tournament was awarded to Khanngam Horam of Ukhrul United FC, he scored 9 goals during the tournament. The best keeper of the tournament was awarded to Ngaranngam Lungranwo of Ukhrul United FC. St Joseph College team was adjudged the most discipline team of the tournament.
Horyaowon Pheirei of Kachai, Winner of SANSA’s Got Talent 2019, Season 6 presented Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold” at the closing ceremony.
This year, people of Ukhrul along with Assam Rifles paid a rich tribute to the legend Maj Bob Khathing Ralengnao- an icon of the Tangkhul community. The 107th birth anniversary celebration of Maj Bob Khathing Ralengnao will culminate on 28 February at Mantri Pukhri, Imphal with a wreath laying programme.
