IMPHAL | Jul 6: BJP Manipur Pradesh today began membership drive during a function held simultaneously with the 118th birth anniversary of former union minister Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee at Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Palace Compound.
Even as the present BJP led coalition government is shaken with internal conflict, the chief minister is very sure of his party securing absolute majority in the state legislative assembly election to be held in 2022.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, CM Biren stated that if the membership drive is successful in identifying and enrolling committed and sincere BJP workers, the party will be able to win not less than 40 seats in the 2022 assembly election.
Even former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, who is a senior Congress leader, had recently admitted that in order to strengthen the Congress party, it needs to follow the deep rooted organisational structure of the BJP, Biren pointed out and expressed hope that the membership drive will be of immense help in strengthening the party.
While noting that it will be very hard to regain the trust of the people if once lost, he said that the government need to emphasise on the welfare of the people in implementing its policies and programmes. The BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah has been putting efforts to ensure a people oriented governance. As such, the BJP legislators, here, should also follow the lead of the central leaders and work on fulfilling the aspirations of the people, he added.
The chief minister further mitigated the ongoing internal conflict within the state government and stated that there will always be amicable solution as it is a mere internal matter that happens between family members sometimes. “For us the legislators, the people, state and nation are far more important and we will work together to solve the crisis and fulfil the aspirations of the people”, asserted Biren.
He also expressed hope that the membership drive will be successful in organising a well-structured and strengthened BJP through induction of more committed members.
Taking part in the occasion, president, state unit BJP, Ksh. Bhabananda highlighted that the anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was held for honouring his firm belief in the idea of nationalism.
Referring to media reports about alleged funds misuse of MP Local Area Development Fund, the Rajya Sabha MP clarified that he is only the recommending authority but the implementing works are carried out by respective DCs and engineer.
He went on to assert that he will declare publicly all the works undertaken under the MPLAD as soon as the parliament session concludes to clear the misunderstandings. People need to demand similar open announcements from all MLAs and MPs in the past also, he stated.
Minister Thongam Biswajit urged every stakeholders and karyakartas to work on fulfilling the vision of prime minister Narendra Modi for a ‘New India’ by 2022 through which Manipur will also be developed.
Even if there have been difference of opinions within the state government, the legislators should keep its focus on developing the state sharp and clear, he said while adding the internal matters would not last long enough to be pernicious.
National president, ST Morcha, BJP, Ramvichar Netam; state membership in charge L. Deben; ministers Th. Radheshyam and Th. Shyamkumar were also present during the occasion, which was attended by huge number of BJP workers.
