Correspondent MON, MAY 10 (NPN) |
In an unprecedented move, the recently suspended 19 NPF office bearers of Mon division locked the party’s Mon divisional head office here on Friday.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, suspended NPF Mon division vice-president CH Yanboh said they locked the office to express their discontentment over their suspension as, according to him, “constitutional procedure” of the party was not followed while suspending them.
Informing this correspondent about the sequence of events that led to locking of the office, Yanboh explained that despite seeking directives on which party to vote as there was no NPF candidate during the recently-concluded Lok Sabha election, there was no word from the president and general secretary of NPF Mon division. He also accused the duo of misusing funds provided by the central office for election expenses. He said even after casting of ballots in the Lok Sabha election, the president and general secretary failed to convene a meeting and collect report.
Considering the above points, Yanboh said they had written a letter to the party’s central executive office expressing non-co-operation to the Mon division president and general secretary on April 22.
However, instead of getting response to their letter as is normally expected and taking the matter as a family issue, he alleged that they were suspended without any explanation call or show cause notice, as required by NPF’s constitution.
He said they will continue to picket the office till they get a response to their letter or the matter was resolved.
It may be noted that the suspended members had threatened to lock the office during the joint meeting with central office bearers and legislature in-charge of Mon on May 2.
Meanwhile, when asked if the party would reopen its locked Mon divisional office, NPF general secretary Hongnao stated that, being law abiding and a peace loving party, the party leadership has restrained itself and instead appealed to the district administration and police to look into the matter and contain it from escalating further.
On being inquired about the party’s further course of action against its suspended functionaries, he explained that the decision lies with party president Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu and central executive council.
