Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has come out strongly against the alleged act of brutality committed by an Assam Rifles officer. Condemning the incident, vice president of TNL, Tuisem Kamkara today stated that the physical assault committed by one AR officer, captain Dheeraj Gautam of 17 Assam Rifles, Litan/Laho Outpost is against humanity.

While interacting with this IFP correspondent, Tuisem stated that whisking away Mungshang Konghay, 28, a resident of Marou village blindfolded in a secluded spot and assaulting him should be condemned by one and all.

It may be mentioned that Mungshang Konghay was coming to Litan from his village on Monday to catch a bus at Kamjong to reach Yaingangpokpi so that he could purchase rice and some household items. He was allegedly whisked away forcibly by AR personnel under the command of captain Dheeraj Gautam around 10 am at Litan bazaar. He was allegedly blindfolded and physically assaulted in an isolated forest about 2 km away from Litan bazaar and was released around 12:30 pm.

“I had boarded the bus when the Assam Rifles personnel came up and asked for my identity card. When I told them that I do not have such card as I am a farmer from Marou village, they dragged me down from the bus. They slapped and abused in front of the public and took me away blindfolded to a secluded area where I was demanded to disclose which UG party I belonged to. They threatened and tortured me with blunt objects. They slapped, kicked and thrashed me with a heavy bamboo cudgel on my back, which caused me to lose consciousness for a while,” Konghay narrated his ordeal to media persons.

In this regard, the Litan Police said that the case under an FIR No. GD No. 08/LTN-PS has been registered against captain Dheeraj Gautam in connection with the incident in which a youth from Marou village was assaulted by the AR team. Later in the evening, soon after receiving the complaint, Litan police rushed the victim to Yaingangpokpi Primary Health Centre for first aid treatment.

TNL strongly condemns the inhumane and high-handed acts of captain Gautam and his team for detaining and torturing the innocent youth without any valid reason causing him immense mental and physical pain and trauma, stated Tuisem Kamkara.

He appealed the authority concerned to give him a befitting punishment as per the existing law and declared that such incident can never be tolerated.
