UKHRUL| Jul 13: Hao Riders, a group of riders from Ukhrul district, took up a tree sapling plantation programme at Orchid Park located in Jorcheng, Lunghar of Ukhrul district.
Although Jorcheng , which is situated around 25 km away from Ukhrul Headquarter (and lying along the stretch of Imphal-Kohima National Highway), has always been renowned as a beautiful and famous spot for picnickers and a source of outdoor hang outs; deforestation due to human activities has slowly degraded the scenic beauty of Jorcheng and affected its surroundings.
“Hao Riders took up the initiative of tree sapling plantation with the objective of replenishing the surrounding with green covers,” its secretary, Chihanching Leisan informed. “We are deeply thankful to the DFO, Forest department, Ukhrul, Shanngam Shaliwo for his earnest support for the cause and providing us cherry, thuja, walnut and oak trees saplings,” he added.
The Hao Riders also expressed their appreciation to the president of Lunghar Youth Organisation, Miwonshang Kazingmei and its members for their sincere and enthusiastic participation and support. In spite of the rains, the members of Hao Riders planted hundreds of tree sapling and also put up quotes encouraging for planting and nurturing more trees.
“Hao Riders will continue to plant more trees in the days to come,” informed Chihanching Leisan.
