IMPHAL | Jun 13: Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation Manipur (RNYOM) strongly condemned the ‘illegal’ land encroachment of Tamenglong land by ‘some section of Meitei community’ of Jiribam district.
The condemnation of this student organisation comes after an inspection tour at the said border areas of the two districts, which are not in good terms lately.
A release by communication cell of RNYOM today stated a joint inspection team comprising of Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation Manipur (RNYOM), Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM), Zeme Naga Council Manipur (ZNCM) and Thadou Students’ Association (TSA) on June 10 observed that there is illegal land encroachment into Tousem area of Tamenglong district by ‘some section of Meitei community’ under Jiribam district.
The statement further asserted that the team also observed that Tamenglong district gate and several sign boards depicting various aspects and names of the area were forcefully removed, which is an act of betrayal.
The team also found that there were All Jiribam Driver Union and unauthorised police out-post (Leingangpokpi police outpost) and few Manipur Police commandos stationed there, ‘which are collectively responsible for illegal activities’.
“They claim that the very plot is guaranteed by revenue officer of Jiribam district” recalled the statement.
The release also condemned media reports for terming them as ‘unknown miscreants’ when they urged the people out there to stop ‘unpropitious’ activities tarnishing the image of Tamenglong people.
“The high handed attitude of major community towards the minor could become detrimental to the peaceful co-existence if the concerned state authority still continue to pay deaf ear”, it said.
The release of RNYOM said that the Jiribam’s claim of NH-53/37 to be the border of Jirbam and Tamenglong is null and void. Land and resources of Tamenglong was, is and will always be taken care of by the rightful owner, it added.
Proving that the claim made by authority of Jiribam is false, the student organisation rectified that the acquiring of voter’s rights and management of electoral affairs in the area, and management of healthcare services and state educational institution are the proof that Jiribam district administration has no part and that it has no authority to indulge in the land of Tamenglong.
“Both the previous and incumbent government seem to ignore and turn a blind eye whenever such situations arise in tribal inhabited areas” alleged the organisation.
Stating that the people of Tamenglong and tribals as a whole will not compromise with even an inch of land and resources to anyone under any circumstances, it urged the state government to rectify the misunderstandings and understand the importance of inclusive governance by paying equal attention to different sections of the society.
