AGARTALA | Feb 02, 2019: As Northeast continues to be on the edge of law and order breakdown over the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016, Tripura Chief Minister, Biplab Kumar Deb broke his silence on the matter and came out in defense of the bill.
Deb stated that the bill is for the entire country not only for the Northeastern states. It is for the first time that the Chief Minister has made a statement on the the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill- 2016.
Speaking to the media at the Civil Secretariat yesterday, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb mocked the other political parties for opposing the bill and said, “They agitate as if the bill was prepared and passed by the Lok Sabha only for the Northeast which is not true.”
He also stated that all the protests and agitations over the bill across the region is an attempt by some political parties to fool the people.
Furthermore, he said that metro cities like Mumbai and Delhi are some of the cities which are worst affected by problem of infiltration adding that states like Jammu & Kashmir,Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh also face the problem of illegal immigration.
“But it seems political parties of the Northeastern region are trying to catch fish on troubled water,” added the Chief Minister.
