UKHRUL| Jun 27: FXB India Suraksha today organised a one-day ‘Training Programme for Journalists on reporting incidences of human trafficking and child sexual abuse’ which was held at its office located at Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
As a part of the event, programme manager, FXB India Suraksha, Satya Prakash presented a speech on the topic of “Ethical Media reporting on Human Trafficking and Child Sexual Abuse;” while member of Juvenile Justice Board- Ukhrul, Wungpam Kasar dwelled on the topic of “Provision under POCSO and Juvenile Justice Act.”
Discussion on challenges and mitigation specific to local situation were also taken up during the programme; and the discussion highlighted the conflict between POCSO and Juvenile Justice Acts with the existing customary laws of the land and the various problems faced in their implementations. It further deliberated on the lack of funds allocated to Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) of Ukhrul while also taking special notice or acknowledgement of the absence of observation homes and rehabilitation centers in the district.
The training programme witnessed the attendance of president of Ukhrul District Working Journalist Association (UDWJA), Thotshang Shaiza along with its members and members of CWC- Ukhrul.
