IMPHAL | Jun 11: Expressing happiness and gratitude for giving people’s mandate in the recently declared parliamentary election, MP-elect of outer Manipur Constituency, Lorho S. Pfoze affirmed of taking responsibility for the entire state irrespective of class, caste, gender, status or assembly constituency.
He was speaking at a Thanksgiving Ceremony held at the auditorium of CHAMS, Kanglatongbi today. The programme was organised to acknowledge the people who had extended help and support for him and the party, directly or indirectly, at the time of election.
Delivering his speech, Lorho said that though he was elected as MP for outer Manipur Constituency from NPF, he would take responsibility for total population of the state. NPF not only stands for Naga people but also signified as “Nahaki Peoples’ Front” which means everyone’s party, he added.
He further stated that people have been proclaiming that “hill and valley is one.” But in reality, there is lack of love and understanding between various communities. There is political turmoil and social instability in the State and it is because of this very reason, state fails to bring development for such a long period, said the new outer MP.
“We have been living in darkness for quite a long time. The only driving force to wipe this phase is to bring peace among different communities. For this, we need to understand, respect and accept truth and needs for other communities,” he suggested.
Stating that the essence of people’s voice and support in nation building, he said that elected members are not the only responsible person to build the nation. “Without people’s participation, it would be incomplete to rule the nation. In democracy, each and every one is valued in nation building just like the way each vote is counted in election,” Lorho noted.
He also appealed to people of the state to extend co-operation, support and constructive thoughts so that he would be able to fulfil the tasks of the state.
Addressing the function, MLA, Awangbow Newmai, who is also the president of NPF, Manipur State Unit assured that the elect-MP, Lorho S. Pfoze would not be a ‘sleeping MP’ in the parliament as party chose the candidate for a reason, to raise a voice for the voiceless people. On top of this, NPF believes in good governance, he added.
He also stated that representing only two MPs from the state out of 545 is meagre. But people should not lose heart as it is not the number that matter but the commitment and dedication. The party will also fulfil the assurances made during the election.
Awangbou also urged people of the state to pour their support for Pfoze continuously so that his voice may be regarded in the house of biggest democracy in the world.
As part of the programme, Pfoze presented gifts to civil society organisations of various communities for their support lend during election.
MLA from Nagaland, Yitachu Fithu, who is also Manipur in-charge NPF central, also attended the function as special guest. Civil society organisations including valley based CVOs like All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO), Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) also attended the ceremony.
