UKHRUL| May 30: A one-day Workshop on Home Stay Tourism was held today at Dr. Earl Brock Training Centre, Mission Compound- Tangkhul Baptist Church Association (TBCA), Ukhrul, organised by National Commission for Women (NCW) in association with AirBnB and Manipur Tourism department.

Speaking on the occasion, member of NCW, Soso Shaiza stated that financial independence is the first step towards women empowerment while mentioning tourists prefer to stay in a home stay and not in hotels these days, as they enjoy mingling with the locals.

While stating that the Tangkhul community have a reputed rich cultural heritage, chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women, Dr Meisnam Binota Devi also said, “Through AirBnB we can attract more tourists.”

Vice president of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tuisem Kamkara, in his speech, stated that the Tangkhul organisation will support this kind of programme while also urging the district administration concerned to collaborate with NCW and AirBnB for successful implementation of the initiative in Tangkhul areas. “The prospect of tourism is very high and the coming of AirBnB will surely be a boon for tourism in Ukhrul district,” he said.

DC of Ukhrul, Dr. Harmit Singh Pahuja further stated that 110 home stays were arranged during ‘Shirui Lily Festival 2018’ and the information has been already uploaded in Manipur Tourism website. While expressing that most of the shopkeepers, entrepreneurs in Ukhrul are women, he said that they should be given the platform to tap the rich potential of tourism in Ukhrul district.

“The District Administration will extend all possible help in making this project a reality,” assured Dr. Harmit Singh.

Head of Public Policy AirBnB, Veena Dixit; and its technical expert (Legal), Mockshda Mishra along with its host acquisition expert- Northeast Region, Christina were the resource persons of the workshop hosted by Tangkhul Shanao Long.
